Argenta, Ataúlfo
b. 1913, Castro Urdiales (Santander); d. 1958, Madrid
   Pianist and conductor
   Argenta studied piano in the Madrid Conservatory, later moving to Belgium and Germany, where he studied conducting under Carl Schuricht. He obtained a teaching post in the Kassel Conservatory, but returned to Spain in 1939. He played piano and celeste with the National Orchestra, and began his career as a conductor with the Spanish Radio Orchestra. Argenta became conductor of the National Orchestra in 1945. During his relatively short career, he made many orchestral recordings, some of which were still being issued in the 1970s.
